This video will cover everything major that we know so far, broken into sections of gameplay mechanics, combat mechanics, and general concepts. We first covered Cube World in Saturday Heat Signature, where we explored the basics and discussed rumors. Hey everyone, this is Steve from ! Today we are talking about Cube World, an action-RPG, voxel-based game that is inspired by the likes of Zelda, Diablo, and fantasy MMORPGs. Below the transcript, you'll find some of our thoughts and concerns as they pertain to Cube World. I've included a transcript of the video below, which focuses on all of the major updates to the game. It's built around infinite everything - Wollay has stated that there is technically no vertical or horizontal limit to the game's expansion, noting that he has been in caves that are "200 cubes deep." Other Major Updates Take Zelda and mash it up with generic MMORPGs, Diablo, and Minecraft - you're left with the best elements from each, hopefully, all contributing to Cube World's creation. All of this helps ensure focus is kept on adventure and exploration. The same goes for character stats (dexterity, strength, et al.), which will be automatically incremented based upon class and subclass choices, but not individually customizable. Building is an example of this: We're given a few tools for basic structures, like prefab walls and elements, but won't have the freedom that is present in other, more building-focused games. Everything is customizable to a degree that it is satisfying, but confined within enough boundaries where each modifiable element doesn't take priority in gameplay. The objective in Cube World is pretty straight-forward: Explore, adventure, and have fun. Wollay hopes to include boats and ships for sea travel, which will unlock potential for numerous continents and islands, all waiting to be explored. A Brief Overview of the Game and its EngineĬube World is an infinitely-generating world with virtually limitless horizontal and vertical bounds caves go hundreds of cubes deep, mountains go equally high, and the land will perpetually generate as you continue to explore. We'll cover some of the frequently-asked Cube World questions herein, like possible races and classes, the world's generation, and city building and generation. Cube World's major advancements since the initial videos can be summed up in a few major sections: Persistent mechanical interactions, environments, and progressive mechanical interactions (character-driven, rather than ever-present elements).

This has really ramped up my productivity since I began the practice. For those of you that are like me with a bunch of different ideas and lists and projects, you can see how this is valuable. For some, you can’t really see the shift. It also helps me break down something unfamiliar into bite sized pieces.įor some, this doesn’t really work. Since in my mind I can’t recall those tasks as quickly by labels, this seems to work better. Then, I can do them all while I’m there instead of running from task to task and going back to the same places over and over.įor those occasional new, short-term projects, I still create a project and task dump into it. It also gives me a better picture of what I need to do at home, at work, at my computer, and so on. It helps me spend more time working on tasks than organizing them. This approach allows me to sort in a different way and one that makes more sense to me. Similarly, if I want to see everything I have to write, I click on the writing label and so on. Later, when I want to figure out what tasks I have to do related to my family, I click on that label. This allows me to add more than one tag to a task. Now, instead of trying to decide what tasks go to which projects, I just add tags. I have purposely kept all of these as broad as possible. I have a Level 1 project called Work with subprojects called Communications. This is really helpful with the new iOS apps that allow for labels to be placed in the common language tasks creation window., I have a Level 1 project called personal with a sub-project called “side work.” I have several different “side projects,” with a label for each. After picking the right project, assigning correct labels and even trying to assign certain time labels, the process was really time-consuming. It felt like I was spending more time sorting and organizing tasks than I was actually doing the tasks. The second problem was the time I spent organizing tasks. ToDoist only allows a task to be in one “Project,” so I’d often go looking at a project and not see a task that I thought should be there or I’d forget to do a task where it later made much more sense. I would be ultimately left with a decision that I could never really fully justify. Some things bordered on the two of those. Both of these are ongoing “lists” and it got kind of confusing when sorting what went in which project. For example, I had a communications project and a social media project for the church that I work for. One of the problems was that I had very similar projects that continued on forever. I created projects for just about everything I could think of, started creating and borrowing custom filters, and even made labels of about anywhere I could think of.Īfter a few months of real and personal use, I came across a couple of problems. Like any other software or app, when I first started using Todoist, I began to explore how to best use it and made it too complicated.īecause I wasn’t extremely familiar with it, I began to borrow from other people and use their systems. The features of Todoist, the feel of it, the platforms it’s on, and the price of it (free if you want) make it unbeatable for task and project management. I know it's a random point to fixate on, but it's always made me curious? I'm guessing there's a weight/aero packaging penalty of some kind that reduced any perceived advantage in shift speed/efficiency. I know the CART drivers still had to rev-match manually, I don't think they had electronic throttle control (throttle by wire) at that time. While CART/WRC/Sportscars had switched over to sequential, they were still using H-pattern. CART was using manual sequential (with gear shift lever) in the early 90s, their methanol powered V8 engines made similar power (or more!) if at lower rpms.Įven after Ferrari/Williams switched to semi-auto paddle boxes, the majority of the grid didn't have the money to develop the tech. I'm sure you're right, I'm just wondering why. Why didn't any constructor try and use a purely mechanical (no electronically controlled actuators at all) sequential transmission like in a motorcycle or some other racing cars as an upgrade to the standard H-pattern? I'm talking about in the 80s before the Ferrari 640 and any form of hydraulic actuated gearbox/clutch. I don't believe the shifts were nearly as fast as they were with the true semi auto transmission on the FW14, which interestingly still kept a 3 pedal arrangement instead of moving the clutch to the wheel like the Ferraris.īut either way, back to my original question. From what I understand they literally just moved the clutch and gear shifter (as paddles) to the wheel. I was more referring to how (from everything I've read/found online at least lol) the pre-1991 Ferrari paddle shift cars were not true semi-automatics in that they didn't rev-match. Sorry, you're right! I forgot they don't use dual clutch, it was electronic throttle control in 1991 (FW14) before the gear changes rev-matched automatically/immediately. Figured the CART transmissions were the same, seems dumb to not go to a paddle if they weren’t mechanical? On a motorcycle, the transmission is built to be mechanically sequential. Or are you saying those were still just actuator levers instead of actuator paddles? Why wasn’t a sequential manual transmission like the one used on the later group B Audi Quattro (Walter Rohl pikes peak version) or 90s CART an option? It took a while for other teams to catch up, Senna was still putting the McLaren (sorry lol) on pole with a H-pattern shifter in 1990. Everyone else was using a pure manual H-pattern shifter from what I can tell.Įven after Ferrari brought out paddles. I’m saying before John Barnard did paddle shifters in 88-89 with Ferrari. they used hydraulic activators instead of a manual gear shift lever, dual clutch/semi auto came later from what i understand. I understand how the early paddle shifters were not dual-clutch. Ross speculated that this aspect of his driving style really suited a young man's reflexes, and (from what I can tell) he thought this was part of the reason Schumi never seemed as comfortable in the car later in his career. However, Shumacher told him that he used engine braking to help rotate the car, the torque at the rear creating oversteer that he could then correct with his inhuman reflexes. Ross told him that it was a good thing from an engineering standpoint, that engine braking=friction=less efficiency. He said that Shumacher disliked a particular engine upgrade that gave him less engine braking. I was listening to the Beyond the Grid podcast the other day, Ross Brawn was talking about Shumacher at Benetton. Which it seems some other guys used to their advantage. You would have a lot more engine braking for sure going down through each gear. Some guys might prefer to keep it in 6th until it almost stalls, and then just throw it in 2nd? If, let's say, your pounding down a straight in 6th going 200+mph and braking for a hairpin in 2nd. Looking for the Daily Discussion thread ? Where to Watch This Week’s New Movies, from ‘Fast X’ to ‘Master Gardener’ The kind of belief that you can only have if you watch a lot of movies. It's about believing in the possibility of love at first sight, believing in finding your soulmate, making that swooping, life-altering connection. "You want to be in love in a movie." This film isn't about love at first sight, finding your soulmate, making a connection. "You don't want to be in love," Rosie O'Donnell, a scene-stealer as Annie's editor Becky deadpans. It's this that makes Sleepless in Seattle so special. "There's no such thing as a perfect person." Sam says, before clapping eyes on Annie as she walks through the departures hall. Sam calmly explains to him that this is what dating is like, trying someone else on to see how they fit. She arrives at the airport just as Sam and Jonah are farewelling Victoria, the interior decorator with the hyena laugh that Sam has tentatively begun dating. Annie, worked into a frenzy from staying up late at night to listen to Sam on the radio, decides to go to Seattle to seek him out and clap eyes on him. _ There's a great scene towards the middle of the movie. The completely improvised conversation when Rita Wilson cries, retelling the end of The End of the Affair, and Tom Hanks cried, retelling the end of The Dirty Dozen. When Sam is preparing to date again and his friend is walking him through the nuances of taking a woman out to dinner ( "You can't even turn on the news without hearing about how some babe thought some guy's butt was cute"). The dialogue, like all Nora Ephron dialogue, is impeccable, with the kind of lines that are simply more perfect versions of how real people talk. Like all Nora Ephron characters, they feel lived-in, with that squishy quality around the edges. The characters are fully realised, with fleshed out relationships and tics and nuances. Despite spending hardly any screen time together in this movie, there's an electricity that crackles between them. You've Got Mail came after this, when the seeds of their chemistry had already been planted. Is there such a thing as love at first sight? Can you have it twice? And can you fall in love with someone that you've never even met? Is there such a thing as love at first sight? Can you have it twice? And can you fall in love with someone that you've never even met? I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy, and romantic comedies don't come better than those written and directed by Nora Ephron, the woman who gave us When Harry Met Sally, Heartburn and You've Got Mail, another Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan venture. But the actual central conceit of this movie is slightly different. ("How long is your programme?") That's the plot. On the other side of the country in chilly Baltimore Annie Reed (Meg Ryan) is listening to the conversation unfold, and finds herself increasingly drawn to Sam (Tom Hanks), as he talks about how much he loved his wife. Jonah calls into a radio station, sharing with the cheesy, honey-voiced psychologist-anchor that his father needs a new wife. They move to Seattle for a fresh start and neither are sleeping (hence the title). Could you guess that from the title? The tale of this movie follows Sam and Jonah Baldwin, a father and son, struggling to come to terms with the death of a mother and wife. It's a wonderfully diverse cast of characters, too. Despite being minimally animated, with a handful of poses and expressions each, each character conveys a remarkable range of emotion and succeeds in bringing to vivid life each new person you encounter. Conversations are entirely text-based, with you selecting dialogue options on Houssine's behalf interspersed with his internal observations. From a map of the city, you select a fare to take and watch a yellow arrow navigate to its destination, the scene then overlaying an interior shot of the cab with Houssine front right and his passenger(s) in the back seat behind.Īt this point, the only thing to do is talk. and Arabs.”Įach night, Houssine hits the streets to track down clues and follow up leads, all while performing his regular job. “I’d say the police have a problem with black people,” Houssine says, then grins, “. At one point a young black man from Chicago (he’s in Paris studying to become a mime, hilariously) gets into Houssine’s cab after a humiliating run-in with the police, and they bond over their shared experiences. These themes-of feeling like you don’t belong, of a rotten system operating to exclude all but the privileged few-infuse not just Houssine’s personal experience but of many of the people he encounters, and work well in linking together an otherwise disparate collection of stories. And it feels authentic that someone would pressure him to essentially become an informant, the kind of blackmail that insinuates that inside the moral grey area of society lies a corrupt, black core. It feels right that Houssine would be of interest to the police given the political climate (both current and echoed in-game) and the hints at his troubled past. One detective, however, disagrees and offers Houssine a deal: Help her investigation into the murders and he'll walk free. His assault also resulted in the death of another person, the latest in a series of deaths that the police are keen to pin on him. There's been a terrorist attack recently, the details of which remain unspecified, but Arab men like Houssine are singled out for suspicion, their mere presence a cause for concern. That kind of random is infuriating.Houssine understands what it means to feel like an outsider. I've no idea how many cases I've done at this stage and only heard that story once, Easily 20+ I'd say and picked him up ever time I saw him so maybe 100 times. I'd say he was the passenger I picked up the most as he appears in every case I think and always picked him up when he appeared. The one that popped it for me was the one about the kid on the tablet and tetris, this one also has I think 3 passidex entries tied to it about him writing books. Got the one for Francois too, he appears very frequently but repeats many of his stories like the e-cars and protests quite frequently. If you are going to actively try for this I would recommend not just driving between petrol stations, he appeared more often when I was driving between passengers. I've heard most of his dialogue many times over at this stage but the one I was missing was him talking about a king dying in the palace. Got it while trying for the last 2 passengers I need. I met an old man with white beard and hair called HENRI DU TILLEUK, and I ask him about a case he was working on, so maybe he is the inspecteur. I met a woman called ALICIA that every time you pick her up she tells you one poetry.ĭuring one of the cases there is a young boy called LUDWING, he is a ghost that randomly appear, it may be related with this achievement, since fantome means ghost. I met twice a girl that always talk about movies, her name is LEIA GRAJA, I play along with her but I never met her the third time to confirm she is the critique. The problem is that this passengers doesn't have many option to choose but I still couldn't get the achievement even if I try different dialogue options. I think the name of the passenger is Childeric De Prahan, he is a cosplay guy dressed as a knight and he only appear after you pick up the other cosplay guy named Hugo Delanney. Hi, if you are playing the game and have information about passengers please share them here so maybe we can came up with a solution faster. Rumors that it referenced a police codeword for marijuana have turned out to be mostly hot air, and so have claims that 420 is a nod to the number of active chemical components in marijuana ( it's actually 480). The origins of 4/20's hallowed place in stoner culture have always been a little foggy. Watch Video: Advice for first time recreational marijuana buyers If anything, the only cogs in Jack of All Tribes's wheel that feel out of whack are the cutesy art style, the unnecessary focus on what is a rather barmy plot, and the tiresome script itself. It's a notable, and valuable, change of pace, and though it could hardly be described as taxing, some of the artefacts picked up unlock special abilities that the tribesmen can then neatly employ in play. Where's Wally-style hunts, for instance, task you with seeking out objects from random crash sites away from the civilisation-building action. The developer's decision to break up the main bulk of play with mini-games proves equally shrewd. Wisely, DivoGames employs a queue system to aid your progress, so it's possible to mark tasks off miles ahead of time, even when the tribe is fully engaged. Early levels focus on menial tasks like picking fruit or gathering wood, but soon you'll find yourself putting out fires, serving up cocktails, or clearing rockfalls, all at a moment's notice. What Jack of All Tribes does brilliantly is introduce each of these elements in a staggered fashion. Jack of All Tribes requires, therefore, the piecing together of moves into chains: to upgrade the tribesmen's huts, for instance, you have to source the money and materials needed to fuel such building work, while regularly placating your workforce with both food and drink. Step by stepĪs is the case with all simulation games of this ilk, what appear initially as simple goals demand a multitude of actions. There's no time to slack off - each target has to be ticked off before the clock runs down for the next stage to be unlocked. In theory, you're free to run the tribe at hand as you see fit: chopping down wood to erect houses, gathering fruit for sustenance, or even treating them to booze to keep their spirits up.Įach level is defined by a strict set of goals, though, which means your actions are directed to a degree. All that's required to direct the tribesman from one activity to another is a tap or two, with every object you touch prompting an action. Stripped back to its roots, DivoGames has delivered a time-management sim in the Build-a-Lot mould. To do so, he takes charge of the clans that surround him, showing them how to farm, feed, and build their settlements up from the ground.Īnd this is where Jack of All Tribes's nonsensical plot thankfully gets thrown out of the window. Jack's prime concern from the word go is to get back home. That, however, is precisely the premise behind Jack of All Tribes: a game that allows you to first travel through time, before challenging you to master it. Never in my wildest (and they are wild) dreams have I considered a trip to the theme park could transport me back to a land time forgot. It's not hard to imagine losing a vital limb or two as the car screams around that final loop-de-loop, though, in reality, a visit to my local funfair is more likely to result in my dying of boredom than blood loss. Owing to a rather unnerving fascination with the third Final Destination movie, the thought of plunging to my death while riding a big roller coaster has crossed my mind more than once. Though not so seriously that their expert barista won't crank out a bit of cute bunny latte art, we might add. Of course, a picnic isn't a picnic without the food, and there's certainly plenty of that to go around. With so much charm, eating here is the next best thing to going on a picnic for reals. Think wicker-style light fittings in lieu of picnic baskets and gingham-clad cushions in place of picnic rugs, coming together with playful artworks and pops of pastel.
